iEDGE Rumoured to Cease Manufacturing?

iEDGE DS Card Supply Shortages

Since late August / early September 2011, several prominent Asian suppliers and distributors of iEDGE cards have been reporting shortages in supply of iEDGE DSi cards. In several cases iEDGE supplies slowly dwindled out through the first half of September but in the majority of cases, stock simply dried up immediately and no further orders were able to be made.

iEDGE 3DS Card Possibly in the Works?

There is no confirmation from an official source at the factory or similar at this time, but several suppliers have now suggested that it’s possible the iEDGE has now stopped production, much like the original EDGE DS card ceased production during Chinese New Year of 2008.

The reason the EDGE DS was originally stopped was because of the imminent (slow, 2 month wait unfortunately!) arrival of the iEDGE DS which was the new card that became DSi compatible. There’s a chance that a 3DS compatible card is now in the works which explains why the iEDGE has now possibly ceased manufacturing. The EDGE team have a history of being unable to keep manufacturing up while rolling out a new card (an annoying problem that most other teams don’t have) so this could well be a sign of a better card to come.

When we have more news, we’ll post it here!
